Jailed Kannada actor Darshan Thogudeepa has admitted to assaulting Renukaswamy in his statement to the police, as is mentioned in the chargesheet filed in the murder case.
The chargesheet, which was accessed by CNN-News18, has the actor’s statement to the police in which he has made his confession. He told the police that he hit him on the chest, neck and head, and even asked actress Pavithra Gowda to hit him with her slipper.
“Renukaswamy was already tired by the time I saw him. It appeared like he was already assaulted,” Darshan told the police in his statement. “I kicked him near his neck, chest and head. I hit him with my hands and a wooden branch. I asked Pavithra Gowda to hit him with her slipper.”
Police sources said Pavithra, who is accused number one in the case, was the “major cause” for Renukaswamy’s murder, claiming that it has been proved from the probe that she instigated other accused, conspired with them, and took part in the crime.
Only a few days ago, a picture of Renukaswamy emerged on social media, showing him shirtless and pleading for mercy before he was allegedly murdered. Darshan and his aides are accused of torturing the man to death.
The 33-year-old had allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra that enraged Darshan. Police have said this could be the motive behind the murder.
The body of Renukaswamy, who claimed to a fan of Darshan, was found near a stormwater drain next to an apartment in Bengaluru’s Sumanahalli on June 9. Raghavendra, one of the accused who is part of Darshan’s fan club in Chitradurga, had brought Renukaswamy to a shed in RR Nagar, on the pretext that the actor wanted to meet him. It was in this shed that he was allegedly tortured and murdered.
As per the post-mortem report, Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga, died due to shock and haemorrhage as a result of multiple blunt injuries.
