HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s love affair with hosting international summits is set to continue well into 2014, as a delegation from The Metropolis (a consortium of metropolitan cities across the world) on Monday met Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain to discuss plans to conduct the triennial Metropolis Congress in 2014 in Hyderabad. The Mayor promised all cooperation from the GHMC for the same. Talking on the sidelines of the hurriedly-convened press meet, Alain Le Saux, Secretary General of the The Metropolis, said that the event would focus only on municipal and urban development issues and not any general topics. He stressed that Hyderabad had excellent infrastructure and urban facilities in place, which had helped it nudge out Bangalore in the final list as the host city. When asked about any kind of monetary support which would be provided for organising of the event, he said all infrastructural expenses for the mega, multi -country event would have to be borne by the GHMC. “We help in global level advertisements and promotion activities. At the city and local level, GHMC will be undertaking the development works,” he said.Presently seven Indian cities are part of The Metropolis. The Congress aims to study and exchange ideas on the existing sanitation, roads, energy, water, transport and solid waste management systems being practised in cities across the world.
