Home Ministry meets on Gurjar protest
Gurjars in Rajasthan are demanding the inclusion of their community in the Schedule Tribe list.

New Delhi: The Union government is keeping a close watch on the protest by the Gurjar community in Rajasthan.

Gurjars are demanding the inclusion of their community in the Schedule Tribe list and have been agitating in different parts of Rajasthan.

With the protests also reaching the doorsteps of the National Capital, the Union Home Ministry held a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and attended by senior officials of the Ministry and Para-military forces.

Four battalion of the CRPF have been rushed to Rajasthan on Wednesday night to assist the local administration in maintaining the law and order in Dausa and other parts of the state, which has left at least 15 people dead so far.

Governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been advised to beef up security so that violence does not spread to these states having a sizeable Gurjar population.
