VELLORE: AIADMK cadre on Thursday welcomed Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s announcement of a government arts college at Arakkonam and a polytechnic college in Jolarpet, bybursting crackers and distributing sweets.Arakkonam MLA Ravi said that a government arts college was a long-pending demand of the people of his constituency. “I am happy that the Chief Minister by fulfilling the poll promise has helped the student community.” he said. Senior party functionaries wanted the college to be named after Puratchi Thalaivar MGR.K C Veeramani, MLA of Jolarpet said he had made a plea to her as soon as he assumed office. Last year the CM had sanctioned a government arts college which started functioning temporarily on the premises of a government high school, while the land and building for the college were getting ready. He hoped that the newly announced polytechnic would be a blessing for students of his constituency, considered to be backward and remote.
