Yamunanagar: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of BSF constable Rocky, who laid down his life fighting terrorists in the Udhampur terror attack.
The chief minister also announced government job for one member in the family. Besides, he said a road in the village would be named after Rocky and his statue would be built in the village.
Khattar on Wednesday visited Rocky's native village Ramgarh Majra in Yamunanagar and participated in his 'Rasam Kriya', paid him floral tributes and consoled the members of his family.
The chief minister assured that the martyr's family would be given due respect and honour by the government.
"Rocky has made his family, village, district and state proud by sacrificing his life for the safety of the country," Khattar said.
He said the sacrifice made by Rocky would also give inspiration to other youngsters.
Brave soldiers of the state have been safeguarding the borders of the country, maintaining internal security and they never hesitate in sacrificing their lives for the same. It is a matter of pride for all of us that every tenth soldier in our Armed Forces is from Haryana, he said.
Khattar was accompanied by Haryana assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Shyam Singh Rana, MLA Sadhaura Balwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner SS Phoolia and other senior officers of the district administration.
Rocky had emptied his entire magazine containing 40 bullets when two heavily-armed terrorists attacked the BSF convoy in Udhampur on August 5, saving the day for the force and safeguarding the lives of 44 unarmed personnel.
Meanwhile, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President and former MP Ashok Tanwar also consoled Rocky's family. Tanwar read out a message to the martyr's family sent by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
In the condolence message, Gandhi, addressing to the farther of Rocky said his martyrdom will inspire other soldiers to serve the country.
Gandhi said in her message that it is hard to endure agony for the parents and other family members.
Tanwar said Rocky laid down his life for the sovereignty of the country and his martyrdom has made the entire state proud.
