New Delhi: Hangman Nata Mullick's daughter-in-law hanged herself to death from a ceiling fan at her residence in Kolkata on Saturday, police said.

Thirty-five-year old Uma Mullick was reportedly suffering from a brain disease and was said to be suffering from depression due to that.

The body has been sent for post mortem. Nata, the only hangman in West Bengal, last hanged Dhananjoy Chatterjee convicted in the rape and murder of a schoolgirl Hetal Parekh, three years ago before retiring.

At that time, Nata had commented that his family was in the business of 'death'. His son Mahadev had assisted him during the 25th hanging of his career. Nata’s father and grandfather were also hangmen.

He had come out of his retirement to hang Dhananjay Chatterjee after the West Bengal Government was unable to find another hangman to do the execution.

After Dhananjay's hanging, Natta had collapsed and was taken home from the jail in an ambulance.
