PUDUCHERRY: Transport Minister PML Kalyanasundaram appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Dhandapani here on Saturday in connection with a criminal case.The minister had allegedly abused and threatened an ENT specialist, Dr Vasudevan, on Bussy street and also damaged property in his clinic in 2010 , following which a case was registered. The incident happened when the sister-in-law of the minister (wife’s sister) went to consult the ENT specialist without taking a token. She wanted to be given priority over other patients, who were waiting to see the doctor.When the doctor, who was examining other patients, refused and told her to wait an argument ensued. Later Kalyanasundaram arrived at the clinic, abused and threatened the doctor. Kalyanasundaram also reportedly banged the telephone at the clinic, following which a complaint was lodged with the Odiansalai Police Station. The case was investigated and a chargesheet was filed. Subsequently, Kalyanasundaram became a Minister and had to appear for the first hearing in the case before the CJM after he was summoned on July 28 and 29. As per Kalyanasundaram’s affidavit filed with the Election Commission, six criminal cases were pending against him, which include five in Pondy and one in Cuddalore. He has been chargesheeted in four of them.
