New Delhi: In Rajasthan, Gurjar leaders have agreed to allow a post-mortem of the bodies at Bayana by local doctors.

"Four bodies from Bharatpur are brought here. Three doctors and one lawyer from our side will observe postmortem," says Gurjar leader, Bainsla.

Government officials in Rajhasthan are seeing this as a first step towards calming the agitating Gujjars.

“We had reached an understanding with Colonel Bainsala and he had agreed to get the post-mortem of the dead bodies done at the site with the help of local doctors of the Rajasthan Government and accordingly the boards have been constituted and the teams are rushing to the site,” said Principal Secretary (Government Affairs), S N Thanvi.

“For the last two days, we have been talking with him to come to a conclusion on how to carry out the post-mortem of the dead bodies. Initially, he put up a demand that AIIMS doctors should be invited to conduct the postmortem but AIIMS refused to come out of its jurisdiction for the same.

"We have been requesting them to come to dialogue, and once the bodies are cremated immediately the process will go further,” Thanvi stated.

Earlier, the protestors had been insisting that the post-mortem be conducted by doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The government had also conducted a post-mortem on one of the 14 bodies kept at the Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur.

The bodies of the protestors are yet to be cremated in Sikandra, Bharatpur and Sawai Madhopur, as well.
