BANGALORE: A shop keeper giving a chocolate instead of giving 50 paise change to a security guard resulted in the guard opening fire with his double barrel gun injuring four persons. Three people had a narrow escape while one was shot on his thigh. It was just other normal day for Omprakash, who runs Bhagyalakshmi news paper agency at Garudacharpalya on Mahadevapura Main Road, till security guard R K Mishra (45), a native of Uttar Pradesh, came to buy a newspaper on Wednesday morning. Mishra is a security guard at a private company.Mishra had given Rs 4 to the shop keeper and was to receive 50 paise as change. But, Omprakash gave a chocolate since he has no change and asked Mishra to collect it the next time when he visits the shop. “This led to a heated argument between the two and angered by this Mishra, brought his double barrel gun from the vehicle and shot at him. Luckily, the bullet missed the target and struck into the thigh of Sanjeev, a mason, who was passing by. Omprakash sustained minor injuries near his lips as the bullet rubbed past him before hitting Sanjeev,” the police said.Even Niranjan, who sells food on a pushcart, and Nataraj, a pan shop owner, sustained bruises on their hands and legs as the bullet rubbed past them. Irked by this, the public caught Mishra and thrashed him. Later, he was taken into custody and his gun was seized, the police said.Meanwhile, Omprakash’s brother Guruprasad said that it was Mishra who picked up the quarrel first. “When my brother asked him to get the change next time, Mishra abused him with filthy words. As my brother questioned it, he said that he was an ex-army man and would shoot him dead. Omprakash asked him to do whatever he wants and Mishra tried to kill my brother,” he explained.Sanjeev has been admitted to a hospital while others have taken treatment for their wounds. Mahadevapura police have registered a case and are investigating further.
