CHENNAI: Samarpan Foundation, an NGO, registered in New Delhi and several other cities across India, including Chennai, has been conducting programmes that include tree-planting drives, rainwater harvesting, free education for slum children, accommodation for victims of natural disasters, free health check ups and much more.The on-going programmes include Mosquito Eradication Programme (both immediate and long-term) through repeated and cyclic fogging operations and larvae destruction. The herbal pesticide Pyrethrum, is being used for the fogging operations. Fogging operations is conducted on a four-day rotational basis for approximately 15 cycles. Samarpan has also initiated a Greening of Chennai Programme as a part of their National Programme in several water-starved cities, with an aim to replenish groundwater and bring back the city’s forest cover.They have also initiated a Seed Collection Programme too for their nursery, which involves kids from various schools.
