GPS for 12,000 RTC buses soon

HYDERABAD: In a bid to improve the efficiency and provide more commuter-friendly services, APSRTC has decided to introduce global position systems (GPS) to track movement of buses from different destinations in two months.APSRTC managing director B Prasada Rao told reporters here on Saturday that GPS system would be implemented in 1,805 routes in 12,185 buses in the first phase. The GPS system will enable tracking of bus and its location at any time.The GPS technology would facilitate an effective linkage between the driver and central control station for exchange of information like seat-vacancy, punctuality and emergencies, to provide effective services, he said.Rao said about 2,292 LCD display units would also be set up.He said based on information through GPS, the software would calculate the time of arrival of buses.
