New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said the government will soon set in motion the process for selecting a successor to DMRC chief E Sreedharan whose extended tenure will come to an end later this year. "The procedure to choose a new chief of DMRC will be started shortly. But he will continue to be involved with Delhi in some way," Dikshit said.
Earlier this month, 78-year-old Sreedharan had written a letter to Dikshit requesting her to start the process of selecting his successor at least three months before his retirement in December so that the new appointee could understand the organisation and its functioning.
Sreedharan, in his letter, had requested Dikshit to select an "experienced professional" to manage the organisation as its operation was growing gradually and that the annual turnover has already touched Rs 12,000 crore.
The new DMRC chief will be selected by a panel comprising Delhi Chief Secretary PK Tripathi, Sreedharan and Union Urban Development Secretary Navin Kumar.
The extension of service given to Sreedharan last year will come to an end on December 31, 2011. He has been given three extensions by the government.
