New Delhi: The Centre is lining up a slew of measures to incentivise electronic transactions by individuals, small traders and shop owners that includes a "monthly reward" for those who have made the transition to digital payments.
Top sources in the government told News18 that individuals and small traders who have shifted “significantly” to online/cashless transactions will be rewarded every month, which will be credited to their bank accounts.
Other details of the rewards were not immediately clear but sources said there will be an announcement in this regard shortly.
The surprise demonetisation drive announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 by scrapping old bank notes of high denomination has already seen a surge in digital transactions.
Apart from the stated aim of curbing blackmoney, the government has said this step will encourage more and more Indians to move to the formal economy by opening bank accounts and shifting to digital transactions.
