BANGALORE: Governor H R Bharadwaj presented medals to police officials at the investiture ceremony2011 organised by the Police Department at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.Addressing the police officers on the occasion, he stressed on the need of timely promotion for police personnel. "Despite their good work, since the last two years their promotions have been delayed," he observed.Tears rolled down the cheek of Leelavathi, mother of M N Guruprasad, the armed police constable who fought against naxals when she received President's Gallantry Medal from the the Governor for his bravery.Guruprasad had joined the KSRP fifth battalion in Mysore in 1999. He worked with STF in operation against dreaded poacher and notorious forest brigand Veerappan. Considering his bravery, he was also deputed to AntiNaxal Force. Leelavathi also maintained that despite his son's bravery, the family members have been running pillar to post to get the arrears that was due to Guruprasad from the department."He was the only bread winner of our family. After his death this is the third medal I am receiving and I am proud of my son. But the government has neglected to clear the files related to my son," she lamented.In all, medals for the years 2010 were given to 52 police officials for their services.
