HYDERABAD: The state government has struck a deal with the GVK Group on running the call-centre of the Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI-108) services. The decision comes as a fresh lease of life for EMRI which is ailing due to financial problems.Though the duo agreed upon certain issues in principle, the government is yet to take a final decision on the proposals made by the GVK Group representatives who held talks with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his chambers in the Secretariat on Tuesday.Sources said that the GVK Group requested the state government to share part of the financial burden on the EMRI due to a bank loan of `42 crore as it cannot clear the amount alone. It is learnt to have proposed that the GVK Group will clear the loan over a certain period but asked the state government to share part of the interest amount of about `1 crore every month. It may be recalled that the `42 crore loan was obtained by Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju on a land which has the EMRI call-centre building. The land reportedly belongs to the Endowments department and Raju is said to have occupied it to take the loan. A senior official said that the government has agreed to pay `1.1 lakh per month for each ambulance to the GVK Group for managing a fleet of 752 vehicles across the state. In addition, it was also proposed to replace all the ambulances over a period of five years with new ones.
