BANGALORE: A division bench of the High Court directed the State Government on Tuesday to conduct the counselling of 114 doctors again and redo the transfer process. The petitioner, Shailaja and others, had moved the High Court seeking fresh transfers of doctors. In her submission, Shailaja said that the transfer is in violation of Karnataka State Civil Service Regulations of Transfer and Other acts and sought to quash it. The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna gave the direction to the State Government in this matter.The public interest litigation filed in the court, challenged a government order dated February 19 that bifurcated the specialist cadre into surgical and medical and there are other related petitions filed and listed together in the court.The High Court on April 6 directed the government to evolve some rational criteria within four months for posting specialists in government hospitals, so that they can discharge their duties in their field of specialisation.The bench observed that the shortage of doctors is a universal problem and directed the State Government to depute doctors to district hospitals within four months.
