PUDUCHERRY: A portion of the roof of Community Health Centre (CHC) in the rural area of Karikalapakam gave in on Sunday creating fear among the patients with regard to their safety while visiting the Hospital.Welfare Minister P Rajavelu who visited the hospital building, which is more than 30 years old , on Monday inspected the damages. During the rounds, he also found that there was shortage of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and clerk. “ There is no gynaecologist to do the family planning operation,” he told Express. There has been complaints to the minister that patients are being referred to Indira Gandhi Government general Hospital and Post Graduate Institute (IGGHPGI) instead of being treated there. As his constituency is served by the CHC, the complaints have been made directly to him.He said that all the deficiencies in the CHC would be rectified. The minister who had a discussion with Chief minister N Rangasamy today after his visit to CHC said that Chief Engineer of PWD has been directed to look into it and take appropriate action. Discussions were also held with Health Secretary to address shortage of staff in the Community Health Centre, said Rajavelu.
