New Delhi: Not satisfied with Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission's explanation on hiking electricity tariff, city BJP president Vijay Goel on Friday demanded resignation of the regulator's chairman, saying he has totally failed to protect the interests of the consumers.
After a meeting with DERC chairman P D Sudhakar and two other members, Goel said he was "surprised" at the reasoning given by the commission in justifying the hike and accused DERC of resorting to "fraud". "If they cannot discharge their duties properly then they should resign," Goel said, adding, the stir against power tariff hike will continue. Earlier, a ten-member BJP delegation had sought an appointment with DERC's chairman seeking answers from regulatory body over issues relating power purchase agreement, power performance, arbitrariness of power companies and presenting wrong balance sheet.
During the meeting, which continued for about two hours, Goel sought answers to issues related to the presentation of forged accounts by the discoms to increase power tariff and the failure of DERC to properly discharge its duties. BJP on Thursday gheraoed DERC premises while alleging the Sheila Dikshit government for instigating the power companies to raise tariffs and demanded DERC chairman's resignation.
