HYDERABAD: To ease traffic congestion at three of the busiest main roads in the twin cities, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department has proposed three flyovers on a cost-sharing basis. The flyovers are proposed to be constructed at the Amberpet Cross Roads and Sri Ramana Talkies junction on National Highway-202, Tolichowki Junction and between Fathenagar Junction and Balanagar junction on National Highway-9.The traffic police has been requesting the GHMC and the R&B department for construction of flyovers at the busy junctions for a long time as are local MLAs, MPs and corporators.Senior officials from the R&B department and the GHMC, including R&B Principal Secretary S P Singh and GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu, inspected these places and concluded that flyovers were a must to avoid traffic congestion.GHMC officials said the corporation has already prepared feasibility studies and cost estimates. The Amberpet flyover is expected to cost around Rs. 95 crore, Tolichowki Rs. 54 crore and Fathenagar around Rs. 90 crore, all totaling around Rs. 240 crore. Since the roads are under the control of the R&B department, the GHMC is not in a position to take up such works on its own.
