District police on Friday received 75 PCR vans fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) devices to boost the efficiency of the force.
The new vans are linked to the integrated control rooms and would help provide real-time inputs about any situation.
"With the installation of GPS in PCR vans, policing will become hi-tech as the locations of the vans can now be easily ascertained through this system," said SSP Dharmender Singh, who flagged off four such PCR vans.
"If some accused are escaping after committing a crime, a fast message would be delivered to PCR vans in the specific area as their location would have been pinpointed by GPS," added a senior police officer.
