Police on Thursday cracked the recent murder of a private company manager, by arresting R Senthil Kumar (34) who was allegedly in a homosexual relationship with the deceased.
Police said Sasi Kumar, manager of an aluminium factory here, developed a relationship with Senthil Kumar, a plumber and a resident of Marakkadai, after they met at a cinema theatre a few months ago.
On August 16, Sasi Kumar was found dead with his throat slit in a deserted area near Vadavalli.
Cops during investigation checked the call log of Sasi Kumar’s phone and found out that the last one had been received from a public call office at Variety Hall Road junction.
As the junction was under the CCTV coverage, they checked the footage and found out that the call was made by Senthil Kumar.
During interrogation, he confessed to have met Sasi Kumar in private often.
He had asked the victim to come to the banks of Narasimha Pathi Lake on the day of the incident. He had planned the murder to rob the gold jewels and cash from Sasi Kumar.
Police said that they solved the case using footage from one the surveillance cameras in the city.
“We began the investigations by tracing the numbers to which the deceased had spoken before he was killed. On that evening, Sasi Kumar had received a call from a telephone booth on Variety Hall Road. Luckily, the telephone booth was under the view of the CCTV camera placed at the Variety Hall Road junction. When we verified the footage records, we got the photo of the man who had made the call to Sasi Kumar’s mobile, who later proved to be the accused, Senthil Kumar,” a police officer said.
After murdering Sasi Kumar, the accused Senthil Kumar had taken away the 3.5 sovereign jewels that the victim was wearing and also took his bike.
To avoid any suspicion, Senthil Kumar had parked the bike at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, police said.
Senthil Kumar has been remanded for judicial custody.
