BERHAMPUR: People of Podempata in Ganjam block are witnessing nature’s fury of late. Sea water has been entering the village for the last four days following high tides. Though no casualty has been reported so far, three houses were swept away. D Trinath, Chilleya and K Rameyya, owners of the houses, have lost all their belongings. Ganjam District Collector Kishen Kumar has directed the Chatrapur tehsildar to distribute polythene sheets and other assistance for rebuilding the houses. The people are not new to the natural calamities owing to its proximity to the sea. Last year, the district administration had proposed to relocate the villagers to a safer place. However, the villagers had declined the offer as the proposed settlement was far away from the coast. The administration is trying to solve the issue, Kumar said.
