CHENNAI: The appearance of the ‘father of the nation’ to present a grievance petition created a flutter at the police commissionerate in Egmore on Monday.The Gandhi clone identified himself as Shakthivel, an autorickshaw driver from Tambaram. He had made news in August, when he climbed an 80-foot high advertising hoarding on Rajiv Gandhi Road, expressing concern over fasting Anna Hazare’s “deteriorating health”. Urging the Centre to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, he had threatened to jump and it took two hours to persuade him to climb down.On Monday, Shakthivel created a buzz at the commissionerate when he claimed that Gandhi had taken possession of his body. He said he would enter electoral politics and claimed that he was receiving threats from his opponents. In his petition, Shakthivel said he feared for his life and that of his family members and sought police protection. He also claimed that he was destined to be the future prime minister of India.
