CHENNAI: Over 200 people sat outside the Ispahani Centre entrance on Friendship Day (Aug 7) for a chance at the stage or in some cases, a family cheer squad ready to bring on their support. The contest titled, Sing your Way to Malaysia, presented by Air Asia and the host venue, offered an extensive selection of Tamil and Hindi songs to choose from. While the audience did get a taste of some rather out of practice bathroom singers, a few running ahead of the music and others quite simply out of pitch — the final round of nine participants shortlisted certainly made it worth the wait. Some popular favourites sung through the competition included Pal pal har pal, June ponal and the evergreen Choti choti asha. Cine playback singers Sujatha, Srinivas, Usha, and drummer Murali were among the judges present who also enthralled the crowd of a few performances, including guest performances by Jayadev and Saindhavi. The Best Male Voice was won by Ramadas and the Best Female Voice was won by Jananie.
