CHENNAI: The much-publicised free 2 acre land scheme of the DMK regime did not reach the beneficiaries, Revenue Minister P Thangamani told the House on Tuesday. Winding up the debate on the demand for grant to his department, he said that the DMK had boasted that it had distributed 2 lakh acres free to the landless. The fact is just 30,477 acre was distributed to 33,558 persons.“Whenever we sought details on land distribution, they used to ask us to visit Tiruvallur. Now, we call you. Come, we will show how the DMK amassed the lands in the name of benamis.”Thangamani listed instances to substantiate his accusation. In Tiruvallur, 10 acres was held by a benamidar and it had now been acquired. In Theni, 17 acres encroached by DMK Union Secretary Vaigai Sekar, his wife and mother-in-law and another person, had been retrieved. In Bodinayakanur Taluk, the beneficiaries Kanmani and Kamaraj were a landlord and a school headmaster. Similarly, in the old age pension scheme, lot of irregularities had happened, he said.
