COIMBATORE: Four final-year students of a private college here were arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting one of their classmates.According to police, Thursday’s incident was the fallout of rivalry between two groups of third-year BBM students of the PSG College of Arts and Science.It all started when a group of students invited A Azeem, from a rival group, on the pretext of talking things out. As a police officer put it, “On Thursday afternoon, four students - S Prasanth, S Sathish, M Mathi Ilavarasan and N Mohammed Ibrahim - took Azeem and a few of his friends near the CODISSA grounds on the pretext of patching up things. However, a heated argument broke out between the two groups. In the melee, the four students attacked Azeem with a stone.” Later, even as Azeem was undergoing treatment at the CMCH, the four students turned up again and threatened him in the presence of his parents.Subsequently, Azeem lodged a complaint, based on which the four students were arrested by the Peelamedu police and remanded to judicial custody.Following the incident, they were also suspended from the college.
