First known case of a woman suicide bomber in Pak
The woman suicide bomber blew herself up near a Christian school in Peshawar.

New Delhi: It is the first known case of female suicide attack in Pakistan. A woman suicide bomber blew herself up near a Christian school in Peshawar.

She had explosives strapped to her body under her burkha.

The Peshawar Police confirmed that the moment the security personnels stopped her at the checkpoint, she detonated the explosives. No one is reportedly hurt besides the bomber herself, who died on the spot.

An initial examination of the woman's remains indicate that she was in her thirties. Police suspect she could be am Afghan national.

Peshawar Police Chief, Tanveerul Haq Sipra said, "A little while ago, a lady arrived here wearing a burkah (veil). When security officers tried to stop her, she blew herself up. She was carrying explosive material, so we can confirm she was the suicide bomber."

Pakistan has seen a spate of suicide bombings in the last few months, the most recent being the attempted assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto during a rally, in which over 160 people died.
