New Delhi: As accreditation has been made compulsory for traditional medicine hospitals, the health ministry on Tuesday gave accreditation to the first ayurveda hospital in the national capital.

Accreditation was given to 'AyurVAID' hospital by Minister of State for Health G. Gandhiselvan.

The government is trying to promote alternate and traditional medicines under the department of Ayush, which covers ayurveda, yunani, siddha and homeopathy.

Accreditation for Ayush hospitals was made compulsory by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI).

According to officials, the step has been taken to ascertain the standard of health care in hospitals practicing traditional medicines.
