Fire mishap averted at YWCA hostel

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A major mishap was averted at the YWCA Hostel building at Statue here on Friday night thanks to the timely intervention of the Fire and Rescue Services.  The fire broke out on the third floor of the ladies hostel, situated opposite AG’s Office and near commercial buildings, including Felicity Square, around 9.45 p.m. No one was injured in the incident as a quick evacuation was effected.Two rooms on the floor were gutted. According to fire officials, the fire was  caused by a short circuit. The Fire and Rescue Services Control room received the alert at 9.56 p.m. and a team led by Assistant Divisional Officer Reni Lukose sped to the spot. “We arrived in time. The fire was at a danger stage then. It could have turned out to be a major disaster,’’ said assistant station officer Ajay T K. The fire was put out shortly after 10.30 p.m.
