Few takers for friendly complaint cell project
Few takers for friendly complaint cell project

The recently launched facility of the Police Department that enables the public to register complaints through Friends Janasevana Kendram seems to have very few takers. Not more than 20 cases were filed using this facility, after its introduction across the state a month ago.

The facility is the first of its kind in the country and was introduced as part of ‘Sutharya Keralam’ programme.

“One of the advantages of the new facility is that any person can file a case without coming to the police station. But the people seem disinterested in using the facility and they still prefer to come to a police station and complete the procedures,” a police official said.

Another reason for the poor response to the facility is the lack of publicity.

“The number of cases registered through Friends Janasevana Kendram are low mainly because of the fact that people are not aware of the existence of such a facility. There are a few who use the facility in Thiruvananthapuram, but in other cities, very few people know about it,” said an official of the police headquarters.

Under the facility, the complaint submitted to Friends Janasevana

Kendram will be sent to the respective police stations for taking the necessary steps.

The complainant would be required to produce a valid identity card and provide a telephone number. Upon filing the complaint, the complainant will be given a receipt indicating the telephone number of the police station concerned.

The facility was started taking into consideration women and children, the physically challenged, and senior citizens. The project aims to ease the burden of depending on the police stations to register all the complaints.

The public can also provide information regarding anti-social activities to the police using the facility.
