False alarm about trouble at Trilokpuri throws cops in tizzy

New Delhi: Delhi Police was thrown into a tizzy last evening when it received around a dozen calls about a brawl in east Delhi's Trilokpuri only to find that no untoward incident had taken place in the area where communal clashes had erupted last month.

Police said they had received 11 calls about trouble in the area with some of the callers claiming that bottles and stones were being hurled from terraces while others said that fresh clashes have erupted.

Noting that they have zeroed in on five callers for making hoax calls, police said that an FIR under Sections 505 (making, publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report) and 182 (false information) of IPC has been registered against these people and they may be arrested soon.

"We received a PCR call about a brawl in Block No.27 of Trilokpuri. The caller claimed that a group of drunken men had got into a fight and even pelted stones at each other. When our team reached the spot, however, it came to light that no stone pelting had taken place.

"A man had consumed beer and just thrown away the bottle. The sound of the bottle breaking set alarm bells ringing in the area," said a police official.

As a precautionary measure, patrolling was increased in the area and people were asked to ignore such rumours, police said.

Clashes which were sparked on Diwali night in Trilokpuri by a drunken brawl near a religious structure had left around 70 people, including 56 policemen, injured.
