New Delhi: Facebook is now a billion users strong. Facebook's CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the milestone on his Facebook profile. "This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honour of serving you," Zuckerberg posted.
"Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life. I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too," he added.
What is now the world's largest social networking service, was founded founded eight years ago in 2004 in Mark Zuckerberg's Harvard University dorm room.
Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Facebook employs about 4000 people in 19 different countries across the world, including Hyderabad in India.
In June this year Facebook had announced that it had 552 million daily active users and 955 million monthly active users.
Facebook reached 1 billion monthly active users on September 14 at 12:45 PM Pacific time.
