Two Left extremist groups in the state, are under the scanner of the police and the intelligence wing. According to the intelligence officials, though these groups have been out of the limelight for the last couple of years, they are making a serious bid to cash in on the labour issues being faced by the migrant workers here.
The activities of the extremist groups came to light after several phamlets and books on Left extremism were found from the migrant workers in the rural parts of the district a few months ago.
“The groups are conducting serious campaigns against the oppression being faced by the migrant labourers in the state. At present, the people are taught to raise their voice against the exploitation, but in future it could lead to an armed campaign. There have been small incidents in the district that are linked to the two groups. The camps where the labourers live are under scrutiny, so that activities like night camps are not conducted,” the police official said.
The migrant labourers belong to the unorganised sector, with no proper association to address the issues being faced by them.
“There are several issues being faced by the migrant labourers who belong to the unorganised sector. With no union or group to voice their concer s and demand for any welfare measures, they are easily lured by the extremist ideology. The activities of the two groups among the workers pose a real concern,” the official said
