HYDERABAD: Aditya P. Mishra, member Engineering, Railway Board, New Delhi, has stressed the need for expansion of railways to cope up with the ever-increasing passenger and freight traffic.Inaugurating a two-day national seminar on ‘Design and construction of bridges’, jointly organised by the Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers, Mumbai and National Bridge Research and Development Centre, Hyderabad, here on Friday, he reiterated the need for developing additional as well as alternative routes to reduce congestion which has increased on the existing major routes.He called upon the participants to visit major bridges under construction in Jammu and Kashmir and across the river Bramhaputra which would stand as engineering marvels.R Vijaya Mohan, additional general manager, South Central Railway, exhorted the delegates to design and develop bridges with modern technology keeping the future demand of traffic in mind.Vivek B Gadgil, managing director, L&T (Metro Rail Project) Hyderabad, expressed confidence that the country can boast of the world’s largest Metro Railway System of 71 km in Hyderabad in a span of five years.
