After Kowdiar, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is all set to open e-toilets in six more locations across the city. The e-toilets will be installed at Pettah, Statue, Palayam, Putharikandam Maidan and Shangumugham. Mayor K Chandrika had opened the Corporation’s first e-toilet in the city at the Children’s Park, Kowdiar, on Thursday.
Already, the facility is available at various locations here. Delite e-toilets, a project of city-based Eram Scientific Solutions and manufactured by KELTRON, are coin-operated and fully automatic.
Sensors control the lights, exhaust fan and flushing system inside the toilet. The toilet has also a hand pipe, cloth hanger and air freshener in addition to FM music!
Eram has set up more than 400 e-toilets in the State by now. As part of networking the entire system, 26 e-toilets in the district panchayat area of Pathanamthitta were linked.
This makes it possible for travellers to know where one is available during a journey. The facility will be extended to other parts of the State.
The inauguration of the e-toilet which was opened at Kowdiar on Thursday had in fact been delayed by several months after the civic authority failed to provide water and power supply on time.
