CHENNAI: General queries on sexual practices and homosexuality littered the interaction with Dr D Narayana Reddy, a noted consultant in sexual medicine, on Sunday afternoon. Dr Reddy addressed a group of Rotarians, persons with social interest and healthcare professionals, spoke on World Sexual Health Day programme by Council of Sex Education and Parenting International, Rotary Club of Madras South-West and Family Planning Association of India. He answered all, intelligent and insane queries, but brought the gathered to a stand-still with his revelations. “You wish to know if a person can live without sex? Research has shown that a person who has sex at least twice a month lives longer than someone who is celibate,” he said.Another revelation was when Reddy revealed that there was no age cap on having sexual relations and recounted, “I once had a patient who was 93, brought to me by a son from his third marriage and he was still sexually active.” He also reflected on how when he started his practice in sexual health, the subject was not promoted and spoken about. Now, he has more patients than he can handle, he adds. “Today the medical world is in agreement that sexual health is essential for overall bodily health.”He also quoted a research published in the USA that showed that the incidence of erectile dysfunction was highly concurrent with the onset of heart problems, “The markers for ED are almost entirely concurrent with that for heart disease and the study showed that seven years after the onset of ED, incidence of heart attack increased exponentially.”Popular transsexual Malaika boldly offered to answer all questions on transsexuality and homosexuality, even thwarting lewd questions about her ‘transformation’ in the process. She also added that parents of transsexuals need to stand behind their children if they are different.
