BELGAUM: The IVth Additional and Sessions Court sentenced Assistant Engineer at Zilla Panchayat Engineering Sub Division at Bailhongal Ramappa K Ninganure to two-and-half-years’ imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs. 45,000 after charges of corruption levelled against him by the Lokayukta was proved.Belgaum Lokayukta officials had caught Ninganure red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 38,000 from from Class-I civil work contractor Abbasali Akbarsab Mirjennavar of Bailhongal, who had filed a complaing with the court.Ninganure had demanded bribe of Rs. 42,000 from contractor Mirjennavar to give him cheque of Rs. 4.25 lakh against the work he had done for the department and settled for Rs. 38,000. Mirjennavar had executed drinking water projects at Gurajur and Gudadur villages in Bailhongal taluk in 2008.As the contractor was not willing to give the bribe demanded by the engineer, he complained with to Lokayukta on April 4, 2008.The court also ordered Lokayukta to file cases against complainant Mirjennavar and Ajit Sitaram Kangralkar, Second Division Assistant at Taluk Social Welfare department at CJM Court for registering false evidence in the court.
