Editor's arrest sparks row between Tamil stars, journos
Tamil Nadu government is in fix with the Tamils stars and journalists face-off.

Chennai: Filmstars and journalists face-off in Tamil Nadu, as the editor of a Tamil daily Dinamalar was arrested for alleging many leading ladies of Tamil cinema indulged in prostitution.

On the one side, Tamil stars protested against a news paper article and on the other journalists protested against the arrest of the editor.

Dinamalar claimed that a little known film star Bhuvaneshwari - who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police - had said that several leading ladies of Tamil cinema indulge in prostitution. The article listed out the names with photographs enraging the film world.

"We compliment each other, we need the press and the press needs us. But you should not exceed certain limits of expression in print or visuals," said actor Sarath Kumar.

"There is a basic ethics that everybody should follow. There is a very thin line between what you can write and cannot," said actor Surya.

The Tamil Nadu government arrested the news editor of the paper Lenin. He's been remanded to 15 days judicial custody and that is got the media up in arms.

"It was open for the police to first summon the editor of the daily and conduct a preliminary inquiry before proceeding with arresting somebody. On what basis has the police concluded that it was Lenin who was responsible for the publication of the news," said journalist B Suresh Kumar.

Caught between the star power and the media, the government is trying to do a desperate balancing act, they tried to reach out to the stars and the journalists. The question now is how are they going to deal with the media.
