HYDERABAD: Budding actor Varun Sandesh on Friday found himself at the centre of a drug racket controversy after police nabbed a certain Dr DV Siddharth and a Nigerian James Egems and seized 45 gms of cocaine from them.During interrogation, the duo “confessed” that they were supposed to deliver cocaine to Varun Sandesh. “The accused disclosed the name of Varun but we can arrest him only if we find cocaine in his possession,” Langer Houz Inspector G Sridhar told reporters. James Egems has been in the country since 1985 and is said to be active in peddling drugs. Siddharth is an MD and a surgeon.“Siddharth went to Bangalore and met James Egems and procured cocaine. They were nabbed at Attapur ring road after they came to Hyderabad and were waiting for a cab,’’ Sridhar said. James Egems used to visit the house of Siddharth along with friends Varun Sandesh, Uppalpati Ravi and Avinash, the inspector added.A laptop and two mobile phones were seized from the duo and it was found that calls were indeed exchanged between Siddharth and Varun. The seized gadgets will be analysed and sent to the forensic laboratory.Siddharth had reportedly supplied the banned drug to the young actor in the past.However, Varun claimed innocence and said he was not in the habit of having drugs. But he confirmed that he knew Siddharth.“It was through my friend U Ravi I know Siddharth. He approached me for doing a film which actually did not work out. Besides, I do not know anything about him,” Varun told a TV channel. Incidentally, Varun threw a party for his friends on Thursday and reportedly had a blast.The actor said he was a complete stranger to the Nigerian and expressed surprise at finding his name in the case.But he said he was ready to face any probe. The police are planning to question Varun, Ravi and Avinash.
