Chandigarh: With an aim to improve traffic system in Punjab, the state government has decided that the tests for grant of driving licences will now be done on modern tracks especially laid for the purpose.
"Now onwards, the driving tests by the authorities will be conducted on tracks," an official spokesman said here today, adding that this is aimed at having a safe and secure traffic management in the state.
The driving licenses will be given only to the perfectionists who pass the driving tests, he said. The spokesman said with strict compliance of government directive in issuing driving licences, corruption will be checked to a large extent.
According to this system, the test for two-wheeler driving will be conducted on a serpentine tracks especially laid for such vehicles.
There will be three other types of tracks for four-wheeler driving, the spokesman said.
Now there will be various electronic gadgets to keep a check on the ability of the driver, the spokesman said. "There will be a finger print scanner-based system where the applicant's biometric will be matched before the commencement of the test," he said.
There will be 34 locations on which the tracks are proposed to be laid out, the spokesman added.
