PURI: After 29 years, the final draft of the Puri-Konark Heritage master plan was passed by the Puri-Konark Development Authority (PKDA) on Monday. It would now be sent to the State Government for approval.Members of the PKDA on Monday held a meeting where the final draft was passed.District Collector and PKDA Chairman Fakir Charan Satpathy said special emphasis has been given in the plan to protect the heritage sites like Jagannath temple and Konark temple besides numerous mutts, archaeological sites and unlisted temples. The master plan has been prepared by taking into account the national building code,   coastal regulation zone norms and the need to preserve underground sweet water zone of the city. Ever since the Puri-Konark Regional Improvement Trust (PKRIT) came into existence in 1982 and was upgraded into a development authority in 1997, it had failed to prepare a plan for the planned growth of Puri and Konark till today. Meanwhile, the Hotel Association of Puri (HAP) contested the draft stating that it was not necessary after the recent amendments to the Constitution in this regard.
