KOCHI: Former National Security Advisor and Paschim Banga (West Bengal) Governor M K Narayanan has said that in spite of the growing discontent in the country, India can still make a mark in the world owing to the contribution of its skilled professionals.He said that owing to the prevalence of democratic conditions in the country, the middle class was able to contribute a number of outstanding professionals.This is a consolation in the context of wide-spread corruption.He said a country like India, does not have despair at the depth to which public life has descended and that the country can find a place in the league of prominent countries.Narayanan was speaking at a function held to felicitate Padma Sri Dr Jose Chacko Periappuram. He said that people like Jose Chacko gave new hope to the country.He showered praises on him for his contribution in the field of medical science. “His exploits in the field of medical science are the stuff of legends. One seldom come across an individual with so many qualities of both head and heart,” Narayanan said.Dr Jose Chacko is a veteran cardiac surgeon who performed the first successful human-to-human heart transplant in Kerala. He has performed over 17,000 heart surgeries. The felicitation programme was organised by the Forum for Growth, Development and Progress (GDP), Kochi. Excise and Ports Minister K Babu, MLAs Benny Behanan, S Sarma, Dominic Presentation, Kerala High Court Judge Justice K Surendra Mohan, Mayor Tony Chammany along with several members of GDP, Kochi, and Lions club were present at the function.
