RAJAHMUNDRY: Train traffic on the third railway bridge on the Godavari here was a standstill for 90 minutes on Tuesday evening following a train driver’s doubts over the safety of the bridge.The driver of Rajahmundry-Vijayawada Passenger train (67299) lodged a complaint at the Kovvur railway station at 6 pm, saying that he had heard a strange sound in the middle of the bridge while the train was moving between the Godavari railway station in Rajahmundry and Kovvur on either side of the river. Consequently, Coramandal Express (12842) proceeding to Howrah from Chennai was detained at the Kovvur station and the Tirupati-Kakinada Passenger at Chagallu for about 55 minutes.Meanwhile, a technical team from the Rajahmundry railway station inspected the bridge and found it in tact and gave green signal for movement of trains on the bridge. Godavari railway station deputy superintendent Vasu said the Rajahmundry-Vijayawada Passenger train left the Godavari station at about 6 pm. After the inspection of the bridge, the Coramandal Express was allowed to leave the station at 19.30 hours. Later, other trains were also allowed to run on the bridge.
