Mumbai: He created a benchmark when he gave the industry 'Emotional Athyachar' only to raise the bar now with 'DK Bose' - the hit track from Imran Khan starrer 'Delhi Belly'.
Amitabh Bhattacharya is a rare find and an asset to the industry. He came to Mumbai eight years ago from Lucknow to become a singer. But he got offers to be a lyricist instead. Bhattacharya took it in his stride and expanded himself into the writing career.
His first film as a lyricist was Raj Kumar Gupta's 'Aamir' starring Rajeev Khandelwal. The songs were well appreciated. Post it, he was signed on for 'Dev D'. Amitabh gave the hit single 'Emotional Athyachar' which turned his career around. In spite of becoming a successful lyricist, he still dreams of being a playback singer someday.
Opportunity knocked on his door with 'Wake Up Sid'. He was initially asked to pen the songs for the film but Amit Trivedi gave Amitabh the opportunity to sing. While Jaaved Akhtar became the lyricist for the film, Bhattacharya gave his voice for the sufi song, 'Iktara'.
There is no doubt that Bhattacharya is a great singer but his prowess as a lyricist still overshadows it. His recent contribution as a lyricist to the Hindi film industry is the song 'DK Bose' from Aamir Khan's 'Delhi Belly'.
The song is very youth centric and became an instant hit. The song initially makes most think, 'what the #$@#' but once the lyrics are clear it automatically falls in the cool category. The song is very smartly worded and has become a rage already. Amitabh Bhattacharya outdid it with this song.
