DIG-DGP tussle in fake encounter case
Gujarat DIG has dashed off an angry letter to the DGP on the decision to curb his powers in fake encounter probe.

New Delhi: The DIG probing the fake encounter case in Gujarat dashed off an angry letter to the DGP, expressing his displeasure, over the latter's decision to curb his powers in investigating the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

The senior Gujarat police official, who is probing the matter in his capacity as the supervisory officer of the case, has sent a letter to DGP PC Pande, saying he was ready to step aside from the whole matter if his powers were clipped.

Sources, DIG of CID (Crime) Rajneesh Rai was unhappy after the DGP sent him a letter saying that the former should seek prior permission from higher-ups, including himself, while taking major decisions in the matter including arrest, permission for forensic tests, searches, future line of investigations and custodial interrogations.

On receipt of the DIG's letter, the DGP is understood to have summoned him and had a detailed talk with Rai.

Rai is known to be an upright police officer who was also a Superintendent of Police at CBI, Gandhinagar, during which he had busted many scams including a multi-crore-rupee high-speed diesel scam.
