New Delhi: In a breakthrough in the heist of Rs 5.25 crore from a cash van in south Delhi, police on Saturday detained one person. Police had earlier claimed that they have identified the robbers.
Police sources said that the heist seemed to have been masterminded by a gang active in Faridabad region.
Earlier in the day, Police recovered the two empty cash trunks from Khirki village at around after security guards in the area reported the matter to them.
Armed men on Friday looted Rs 5.25 crore from the van carrying cash for Defence Colony's ATMs and fled after shooting a guard.
Four to five men in a Hyundai Verna car intercepted the Maruti Eeco van carrying cash in the upscale Defence Colony at around 1:00 pm, dragged out four men in the vehicle at gunpoint and shot at one of the two security guards who resisted them.
The injured guard Munni Singh, who was rushed to AIIMS, died later.
The cash was taken from ICICI Hauz Khaz branch in south Delhi by Premier Shield Pvt Ltd, an agency engaged by various banks to replenish ATMs, and was being brought to Lajpat Nagar area, a few kilometres away when it was waylaid. The gunmen then fled in the cash van.
It has also been found that the car in which the robbers came was stolen. They left the car at the spot.
