In response to the worsening air quality in Delhi-NCR, which has recently seen the Air Quality Index soar above 400, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) has launched a dedicated clinic for pollution-related illnesses. The new facility, named the Pollution Janit Rog Nivaran Kendra, aims to address the rising health concerns among residents, including respiratory issues and eye irritation.
The clinic will operate weekly on Mondays from 2 PM to 4 PM in OPD rooms 1 to 5 on the ground floor of RML Hospital. Patients visiting the clinic will not only receive treatment but will also be provided with guidance on self-care during pollution events.
Dr Amit Suri, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Clinic In-Charge, emphasised that RML is the first hospital in Delhi to establish a specialised clinic for pollution-related diseases. He encouraged those suffering from respiratory conditions exacerbated by pollution to seek help at this new facility.
The clinic will feature a multidisciplinary team of doctors from five specialties: respiratory medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, and psychiatry. If patients present with unrelated health issues, specialists will be consulted on call to ensure comprehensive care.
Dr Suri noted that the clinic’s operations may expand if patient demand increases, potentially adding more doctors and extending hours.
The initiative aims to provide holistic treatment for pollution-related health issues, with all prescribed medications available through the hospital’s free pharmacy. The clinic will remain operational as long as pollution levels pose a risk to public health in Delhi.
