THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The political decision to shift Seema Bhaskar from the post of project director of Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society should be reviewed immediately, demanded Kerala Sthreevedi. While Seema Bhaskar had been appointed by the Union Ministry of Human Resources for a term till April 2012, Sthreevedi said that the haste shown by the Education Department in shifting her from the post raises suspicion. It said that the Mahila Samakhya Society (MSS) has been doing exemplary work in the empowerment of women, children and Dalits during the last four years. It has also rehabilitated a number of children who were victims of child sex abuse. The Society also initiated 12 such rehabilitation centres in various parts of the State. It was MSS that conceived the idea to make Nilambur a dowry-free area. The sanitary issues of tribal women, increasing gender sensitivity and addressing the reproductive issues of women, especially tribal women, were some of the other areas in which MSS successfully intervened. When project heads of programmes aimed at welfare of women and children are shifted from their posts, the whole programme will tend to suffer, pointed out Sthreevedi. The impact of such politically-motivated decisions has to be studied and the State Government should re-examine the decision, said the Kerala Sthreevedi in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
