KOCHI: Saadhujana Vimochana Munnani president Laha Gopalan has said that the UDF Government had accepted the demands on the rehabilitation of the agitators in Chengara and a final decision would be taken on Wednesday.He said the government had in principle agreed to provide cultivable land to all the families. The decision would be taken in the meeting with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, he said and added about 2,500 families would get the benefit. The previous government had provided lands that were not suitable for agriculture and livelihood, he said and added Chandy had agreed to provide better lands, which had prompted them to accept the package. opalan was here as part of the statewide ‘Adisthana Varga Mochana Yatra’, which is aimed at protecting the rights of the deprived class. The yatra, which started from Chengara on August 4, would conclude in Thiruvananthaputram on August 31. Talking at the reception hosted in the city, Gopalan lashed out at the CPM and the previous VS government for the Chengara package that did not meet the basic neeeds. He also alleged that the land reforms bill of the EMS government had deprived land to the tribals and dalits.
