CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Friday called for an all-party meeting to discuss the Mullaiperiyar dam row and said “satisfactory” action has not been taken by the Centre and State government to prevent attack on Tamils in Kerala.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the party’s Executive Committee meet here, Karunanidhi the all-party meeting is needed to showcase that Tamil Nadu was united on the dam issue.According to a resolution passed at the meeting, the DMK will observe a one-day fast in all Corporations and Municipal towns on December 12 and will also protest by forming human chains in Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram on December 15.On convening a special Assembly Session as done by Kerala, Karunanidhi said the actions taken by Kerala had to be watched closely. “DMK’s stand in the issue is the same since beginning. It has been stressed again through the resolution passed in the Executive Committee meeting,” he added.Reacting to the charges of PMK founder Ramadoss that DMK was lethargic in implementation of the SC order to increase the water level from 136 ft to 142 feet, Karunanidhi said that it was not time for give reactions. “Such remarks would only dampen the protests and expose the divisive factors in fighting a major cause. Considering the welfare of farmers and the future welfare of Tamil Nadu, the parties should lend their voice in unison,” he said.
